The construct of family is an ever-changing concept in today’s world.
We have traditional family units headed by heterosexual couples; non-traditional families with unmarried parents or life partners; open-minded families with Same-Sex parents, where there may be two mothers or two fathers; and rearranged or ‘blended’ families where siblings are from different parents. Plus we have emotionally generous Foster families with elastic boundaries of inclusion.
Within all of these modern day families there are important events that mark the passing of time across the generations and the inevitable additions to these growing families which present a reason for celebration. Some of these significant moments include Baby Naming of the newest arrivals, Adoption of existing children into the family and Memorials to celebrate the lives of those family members recently departed.
